The Patrick Spann Foundation brings together his friends to achieve Patrick's vision of revitalizing our nation's distressed communities. We believe that the health of our national economy depends on how prepared the next generation is to rebuild these communities. Patrick found that mentors could give these children the confidence to create real change. However, achieving this level of change requires great opportunity. We see this opportunity in preparing these children for leadership in careers that require advanced skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
We also know the challenges these children will face.
Many of us are members of the groups ... women, children of low-income families, and racial and ethnic minorities ... that have been traditionally underrepresented in the STEM professions. Others of us have witnessed the barriers our friends and loved ones have encountered. But we are proof that these barriers can be overcome.
Like Patrick, we are young professionals. We are graduates of The University of Chicago, Cornell University or Fordham University. We are actively employed in fields such as engineering, information technology, medicine, finance, and manufacturing. We are also seasoned professionals who bring our experience to benefit the work of the Foundation.
Together we partner with the STEM industry to prepare our children for career leadership in the STEM professions and in the work of rebuilding their communities.
